West of 98: Living and Writing the New American West
Released September 1, 2011
Rowland teamed up with Lynn Stegner, daughter-in-law of Wallace Stegner, to compile this impressive collection of essays from writers in every state west of the Mississippi. Each writer was asked to explore what it means to them to be from the West, and how it has shaped them as writers and as people. The collection includes work from such luminaries as Larry McMurtry, Louise Erdrich, Urula Le Guin, Barry Lopez, and Gretel Erlich.

West of 98 Reviews
“One of the glories of this book is that it is host to 67 writers…Voices and viewpoints are left out, but that does not diminish the value and pleasure of West of 98.”
